Vellore, the very mention of this historic town evokes myriad surges of emotions when one recalls the great vellore mutiny of 1806. Vellore is famous for CMC Hospital, VIT University and Golden Temple. It was the vision of our former honourable Chief Minister Kalvi Thanthai Thiru.K.Kamaraj to uplift the socially and economically backward district of Vellore to a vibrant place of learning and hence kick-started the Government College of Education, Vellore in the month of August 1956 with Tamil Nadu G.O Ms.No 117 /Education dated 23.06.1956. The college then became a co-Educational institution from the academic year 1991-92. A special mention must be made of Mr..S.Chittibabu, the first Principal of this college and famous educationalist, who then rose to the Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University. The motto of our college is to sift for truth. The institution is well connected by road and rail. It is just at the centre point 2kms away from Katpadi Railway Station in the north and 2 kms away from Vellore Bus stand in the South. Government College of education, Vellore enjoys the pride of place as one of the foremost institutions of learning and always strives for excellence and ever willing to scale new heights in the future in the field of teachers’ education.
This institution is the only Government institution offering B.Ed., course in Vellore district. Spacious classrooms, Library and various well-equipped laboratories are available for curriculum transaction and other academic activities. This institution is a state government institution with efficient, experienced and dedicated faculty members. All the activities from admission to academic funding are carried out as per the government norms. The entire organization and management is monitored by the director of collegiate education and government of Tamil Nadu.
